Free Home Insulation Scheme For Peterhead Residents

Residents in Peterhead are being encouraged to take advantage of a Scottish Government initiative which could see loft and cavity wall insulation installed in their homes for free.

Letters have been sent to all households in the town, informing them about the scheme. Following an initial assessment, residents could see loft insulation and cavity wall insulation installed at no cost to the homeowner.

Around 7,200 households in the area could benefit under the Universal Home Insulation Scheme. The initiative is being brought forward by Aberdeenshire Council in conjunction with SCARF (Save Cash & Reduce Fuel) and the Scottish Government.

Chairman of Aberdeenshire Council’s Social Work and Housing Committee, councillor Gurudeo Saluja, said: “This scheme provides an excellent opportunity for Peterhead residents to enjoy the benefits of increased insulation without the worry of finding the funds to provide it themselves.”

Vice-chair councillor Carl Nelson added: “The Universal Home Insulation Scheme will make it easy for householders in Peterhead to insulate their home. Residents need to be aware that this offer will only be available this month and I would encourage residents to act quickly to take full advantage of this offer.”

Jean Morrison, chief executive officer of SCARF said: “With the increase in fuel prices, this is a perfect opportunity to save money. Loft insulation and cavity wall insulation will mean that householders will see a reduction in their fuel bills.”

Householders in Peterhead have been sent a letter letting them know about the scheme and asking them to complete a short home energy check. Once this form is returned, a home energy assessor will contact them to arrange a convenient time to carry out a home energy assessment.

Home Energy Assessors will be out and about in to provide face-to-face advice about the initiative and to arrange appointments for home surveys.

Home Energy Assessors will also be contacting tenants of Aberdeenshire Council properties. Tenants will not receive home insulation through the Universal Home Insulation Scheme, as the council is arranging this separately. However, tenants will be offered energy efficiency advice and benefits checks free of charge.

For more information on the Universal Home Insulation Scheme, residents should contact SCARF on (01224) 213 005.
