Flood Damage Reinstatement Service Promoted

Shepherd, one of the largest independent firms of chartered surveyors in the UK, is promoting a nationwide flood damage reinstatement service in response to the extreme weather conditions which has seen the largest snowfall and one of the longest cold spells across Scotland for 40 years.

Shepherd partner Graeme McDonald said: “Last year’s big freeze forced around 700 companies in Scotland to shut down their operations for several weeks, and even months, after burst pipes left offices and workplaces unfit for business.

“And the recent period of extreme temperatures is testing the limits of both residential and commercial properties, with potential for burst pipes, boiler failure, leaking roofs and damage to rainwater conductors. We are currently advising property owners to carry out regular inspections, especially those with vacant properties, at this vulnerable time to minimise any loss.

“The weather seen over the last few weeks has been unprecedented but, with more freezing temperatures forecast for coming months, we can expect to see an increase in flood damage in early 2011.

“Fortunately, we have considerable experience in flood damage reinstatement works and can offer a range of professional services in the building insurance claims market, acting as a single point of contact between the insurer and the insured during what can be a particularly stressful time for property owners.”

Shepherd’s Building Surveying department offers national coverage in insurance reinstatement services for both residential and commercial properties and acts for the major loss adjustors.
