Councillors in Dundee will next week be asked to agree a strategy for the future of allotments in the city.
The city council's leisure, arts and communities committee will on Monday (June 28) be discussing adoption of a strategy that sets out a vision for allotments over the next five years.
Committee convener Councillor Bob Duncan said: "There has been consultation with allotment associations, plot holders and other interested parties to help produce the strategy and, where appropriate, their suggestions have been taken on board and included in the document.
"Interest in allotments has grown steadily in recent years and it is important that there is a strategy that gives an overview of the situation in Dundee and which aims to improve allotment gardening over the next few years.
"The development of partnerships between the council and the allotment organisations, for example, will be a vital part of the strategy to ensure that everyone involved is working towards the same goal of having facilities that the city can be proud of."
The allotment strategy underlines the importance of identifying new methods of funding to enable an action plan to be implemented and states that due to financial constraints, the council on its own would not be able to carry out improvements.
