There is still time for locals in the historic village of Leadhills to give their views on the improvements they would like to see to the area's public areas and heritage assets.
There is currently £100,000 available from the Conservation Area Regeneration Scheme (CARS) to undertake improvements to the village that are of conservation value. In addition to this fund which is being delivered by the council in partnership with Historic Scotland, there are potential opportunities to maximise funding from other grant sources, though this will be dependant on other factors.
Last year property owners in the village carried out repairs and reinstatement works thanks to 31 grants being awarded. And the next stage involves funding works to improve the heritage assets and public areas within the village.
Over the summer of 2008 there was consultation with the community with regards to the Leadhills Conservation Character Appraisal and CARS. During the consultation there were a number of suggestions from the community with regards to improvements and enhancements to the village.
As a result, a list of potential enhancement projects has been prepared. However, there are not sufficient funds to carry out all the projects listed. Therefore the community's views are being sought on what projects should be targeted and made a priority.
You can still register your comments and identify your priority projects by completing the comments form online at consult.southlanarkshire.gov.uk/portal.
