One of Oban's busiest thoroughfares is to be resurfaced next month.
The work – to be done in two consecutive phases between April 12 and May 2 – will be carried out on Albany Street and the junction of Alma Crescent and Shore Street.
Phase 1 will cover Albany Street from the Library to Alma Crescent at the Crannaig a Mhinister junction, and extending to the dentist surgery car park in Shore Street.
This phase will be undertaken during night time hours.
Phase 2 will cover Albany Street from the Argyll Square junction, to join up with Phase 1 at the Library. This work will be undertaken during daylight hours.
Pedestrian access will be maintained throughout the course of the works, although parking and vehicular access will be restricted. Diversions will be adequately signed.
Councillor Duncan MacIntyre, Chair of the Oban, Lorn and the Isles Area Committee and Argyll and Bute’s spokesperson for Transportation and Infrastructure, said news of the work would be welcomed by those who use the route.
"The condition of the roads in this area of town has been an issue for some time, and I am sure those who regularly use Albany Street will be delighted that it is about to be resurfaced.
"I would like to assure people that every effort will be made to speed up the works in order to minimise their impact on residents and businesses alike. But there is bound to be some disruption both in terms of vehicle access and noise, so I would appeal for co-operation and patience from those affected."
Phase 1 is programmed to start on April 12 and last no more than five consecutive days, with a night time road closure in place for April 12th, 13th and 14th. There will be no access for vehicles through the works once the closure is in place.
Work will continue through the night in order to open the carriageway for the early morning ferry traffic. Some work will also be undertaken during normal daylight hours, but this should not significantly affect access.
Phase 2 is programmed to follow on from Phase 1, and is due to start on April 19th and last no more than 14 consecutive days. Access for through traffic will be maintained, with limited short stay parking. Work will be undertaken during daylight hours under lane closures.
