Energy Minister Jim Mather has welcomed news that views from the Scottish construction industry will be heard by the UK Government as part of its Low Carbon Construction Review.

Tim Clarke, Balfour Beatty Construction's Divisional Managing Director for Scotland, has been selected to join specialists from across the UK to consider cross cutting issues during the Review. He will feed in views from the Scottish sector, and report progress to the Scottish Construction Forum, of which he is a member.

Mr Mather said: "As a member of the Scottish Construction Forum, Tim Clarke has an excellent grasp of the issues faced by the construction industry in Scotland and is ideally placed to represent this sector.

"The Scottish Construction Forum performs an extremely useful role in advising the Scottish Government. It is pleasing to see that the UK Government is now keen to tap into the Forum's knowledge and expertise on this core sector.

"Scotland continues to lead the way when it comes to low carbon innovation, and the construction industry has a vital role to play in our efforts to significantly cut carbon emissions. It's entirely appropriate that through Tim, the Scottish Construction Forum is represented in this Review, which will consider how the UK construction sector can respond to the challenge of creating a sustainable low carbon built environment.

The Scottish Construction Forum is made up of senior representatives from across the industry, clients, government and enterprise agencies. The forum meets bi-monthly. Its aim is to act as a point of contact between the Construction Cluster, the Scottish Government and the Scottish Parliament to advise at a strategic level on the actions required to promote innovation and excellence across the Cluster.
