Plans to create a new energy centre at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary have been given the go ahead by city councillors.
The centre, which will house a combined heat and power (CHP) plant, a bio-mass boiler fuelled by woodchips and two dual-fuel, will provide 90% of the electricity needed at the Foresterhill site.
The new rectangular building, which will be 22 metres wide, 34 metres long and nine metres high, will be screened by a belt of mature trees. It will be of modern design and finished with an aluminium roof and timber cladding.
The existing west boiler house will be demolished following the completion and testing of the new energy centre.
