Morrison Construction has confirmed steady progress on the Mountain Bike Innovation Centre and Trail Lab in Innerleithen, a flagship hub designed to accelerate innovation, research and development across mountain biking and the wider cycling industry.
Commissioned by South of Scotland Enterprise, with support from Scottish Borders Council and Edinburgh Napier University, the facility will provide a base for Scottish, UK and international businesses and researchers to design, test and showcase new products at one of the UK's premier mountain biking destinations.
When complete, the centre will feature bike engineering and workshop areas, brand experience units, event space, offices, meeting rooms and dedicated teaching facilities.
Early construction milestones have been passed, with Morrison Construction finishing groundworks and drainage. The steel frame is now being erected, giving the first clear impression of the building's final form.
David Ewing, Managing Director for Morrison Construction Building Central, said: "It is fantastic to see the Mountain Bike Innovation Centre taking shape and reaching this important stage of construction.
"This is a unique project that will create a world-class facility for innovation, collaboration and research, while supporting the continued growth of the cycling sector in the Scottish Borders and beyond. We are proud to be working with South of Scotland Enterprise and all project partners to deliver a facility that will provide lasting benefits for businesses, athletes and the wider community."
Backed by £15.5m of UK Government funding through the Borderlands Inclusive Growth Deal, the centre is expected to open in July 2027, coinciding with the arrival of the Tour de France in the Scottish Borders.
