SP Energy Networks has launched a public consultation on plans to route a new overhead line to connect the proposed Callisterhall Wind Farm, near Winterhope Reservoir east of Lockerbie, to the Gretna substation in Dumfries & Galloway. A 15km 'preferred route’ has been identified for feedback.
The developer-funded connection would be built using dark brown wooden poles, 14–16 metres high and spaced roughly 65–100 metres apart. It is intended to bring more renewable power onto the network to meet rising electricity demand and support low‑carbon technologies such as electric vehicles and heat pumps.
Residents can view proposals, meet the project team and ask questions at a local drop‑in on Tuesday 2 December, 2–7pm, at Chapelknowe Village Hall, Canonbie DG14 0YF. Further information is also available online at: callisterhall_wind_farm_connection

Input from this first round, alongside environmental survey findings, will inform the final proposed route. SP Energy Networks anticipates further public engagement in late 2026 and plans to submit a consent application to the Scottish Government’s Energy Consents Unit in spring 2027.

"The project is currently in its early stages, and we would like to hear your views on the preferred route running from the proposed Callisterhall Wind Farm to the substation at Gretna.
"There is real value and benefit in communities taking part in consultations and we hope that people take the time to look at the proposals and feedback or if they can, come along to the community drop-in."
