Plans are underway to attract a new supermarket to West Lothian.
Permission has been granted by West Lothian Council's development control committee to allow an increase in the class 1 retail space at Heartlands, Whitburn, from 2,000 square metres to 5,561 square metres.
This extra retail space will allow the developer to plan for a larger supermarket within the Heartlands site, rather than compete with the range of smaller retailers found in the town centre.
Outline planning permission for a mixed use development, including 2,000 houses, a hotel, golf course, community facilities, business park, motorway junction and transport interchange on land between the M8 motorway, Whitburn and Fauldhouse was granted in May 2006.
