University Of Glasgow Acquire Student Residence In Cooperage Place

Drivers Jonas in Scotland has used their team of experts in building, planning and valuation to help the University of Glasgow acquire a £14m, 400-bed student residence in Cooperage Place, Glasgow.

The Cooperage Place deal is a significant addition to the University's existing residencies, and will provide high-quality accommodation, just a short walk from the main campus.

Cooperage Place was bought from UNITE, a leading developer and manager of student accommodation.

Neil Campbell, the University's Director of Campus Services, said: "We recognise that UNITE are major players in the student accommodation market. Given that UNITE accommodate nearly 37,000 students across the UK, we were confident that we were buying a tried and tested asset from an experienced provider familiar with student accommodation provision.

"It is of strategic importance to the University that our student accommodation provides the standards of 21st century living that our students expect and deserve. Our well-established and successful partnership with Sanctuary Housing, who manage around two thirds of our bed spaces, helps us achieve this goal.

"In acquiring Cooperage Place, we have gained a new asset which is fit for purpose in terms of location, layout and capacity. We intend to keep open channels of communication with UNITE and other private sector organisations so that the University can consider similar opportunities in the future."

Aileen Gomes, Head of Construction Consultancy at Drivers Jonas in Scotland, said: "We have worked with the University of Glasgow on a number of building surveying projects over the past few years and we were delighted to have the opportunity to work with them on this major acquisition."
