Six hundred council house tenants will have new kitchens fitted over the next year by City Building (Glasgow) LLP after the company won a year-long £404,000 contract from East Renfrewshire Council.
The company's cost of £950 per kitchen compares favourably with £1500 formerly charged by the council's own construction services staff.
The resulting £300,000 saved will be ploughed back into housing capital projects so that tenants will enjoy further improvements to their homes.
City Building has also won a £117,000 rewiring contract and a further £262,000 contract for bathroom installation from East Renfrewshire, bringing the total value of the work won to £783,000.
East Renfrewshire Council's housing convener Councillor Danny Devlin said: "City Building came out on top in terms of price and quality after the tenders generated excellent contract bids. The company is experienced in kitchen and bathroom work, has an excellent track record and has met all the requirements of our property and technical services staff. Tenants can look forward to their new kitchens and bathrooms being fitted speedily and with quality."
Willie Docherty, Managing Director of City Building (Glasgow) LLP said the firm are "delighted" to have won this contract and to work in partnership with East Renfrewshire Council.
