Official Opening Of Cameron House Community Education Centre

Cameron House Community Education Centre was officially opened on Monday 23 February.

The new state-of-the-art community education centre is on the edge of Prestonfield Park at 34 Prestonfield Avenue.

The striking modern building houses a large games hall, with space for three basketball courts, a dance studio, a large multi-media room, an art room, a crèche, a computer suite as well as meeting rooms for community group meetings and councillors' surgeries.

The opening event featured an exhibition game of basketball and other demonstrations of the new facilities. Cameron House Community Education Centre will be officially opened on Monday 23 February.

The striking modern building houses a large games hall, with space for three basketball courts, a dance studio, a large multi-media room, an art room, a crèche, a computer suite as well as meeting rooms for community group meetings and councillors' surgeries.

Education Convener Cllr Marilyne Maclaren unveiled a plaque and declared the centre officially open.

The centre's own basketball team then went head to head with the Lothian and Borders Police team.

The Council have invested approximately £2.5m in the centre which has been eagerly awaited by the community.

The new building has had extensive community involvement right from its inception. The centre will host a full programme of classes and events and staff will now be able to extend and add to classes due to a vastly increased capacity.

Cllr Marilyne Maclaren, Convener for Education, Children and Families said: "This opening reinforces our commitment to community education in the city. I am delighted to be opening the new Cameron House Community Education Centre.

"We believe these centres can be at the heart of the community for young and old."
