Communities Minister Stewart Maxwell has urged more energy companies to reduce prices.
Mr Maxwell was speaking on Friday as Scottish and Southern Energy announced it is reducing prices for domestic electricity and gas customers on 30 March 2009.
Average prices for electricity customers will fall by 9% and for gas customers they will fall by 4%.
Mr Maxwell said: "The news that Scottish and Southern Energy is reducing its prices is a step in the right direction. I hope it will signal many similar reductions from other energy companies."
The Scottish Government is investing a further £10m this winter in the Central Heating Programme, bringing total investment this year in fuel poverty programmes to £54.1m
