Charity Fundraising Becomes A Special Project For Miller Construction Director

Director of Special Projects at Miller Construction, Stephen Beadle, has made charity fundraising one of his very own 'special projects', raising around £20,000 in total for charitable causes after undertaking five marathons.

The 56-year-old, originally from London, who now resides in Avonbridge in Falkirk, has endured an incredible 131 miles in aid of a number of organisations including Yorkhill and Great Ormond Street Hospitals.

Most recently, he ran the New York marathon in November last year, raising £5,000 for Get Kids Going, a national charity which helps disabled children and young people get the opportunity to take part in sport.

Stephen, who has been based at Miller Construction’s Glasgow office since 2000, said: "Selecting Get Kids Going as the charity for my most recent race was an easy choice to make due to the fantastic work it does.

"It's dedicated to helping disabled children and young people get the chance to participate in sport, whether at a professional level or at home with friends which really impressed me. It also produces specially built sports wheelchairs and supports gifted individuals throughout their training, to help create future world record holders and Paralympic champions."

Stephen believes that the New York marathon is one of the best sporting events in the world and encourages others who feel like getting active to think about taking part.

He adds: "Although I don’t enjoy running, taking part stops me from becoming a couch potato and has given me the perfect opportunity to generate much needed funds for some great causes.

"It's amazing to find that I’ve managed to raise nearly £20,000 from the five marathons. It certainly helps motivate me to undertake another marathon sometime soon."

Stephen joined Miller Construction in 2000 in an attempt to leave the hectic and fast paced lifestyle of London behind. He has been involved in the Lifecycle and facilities management of a number of key Miller projects including the PFI/PPP Glasgow Schools Project, rebuilding 29 secondary schools; the NHS Lift Initiative delivering 28 primary care centres; the rebuild of Mulberry School for Girls in London and until recently, the operation of the Skye Bridge.
