Aberdeenshire Council has announced that Bruce Robertson will temporarily take over managerial responsibility for the Housing and Social Work service when Colin Mackenzie becomes Chief Executive on 18th December 2008.

Bruce will provide leadership to the service whilst the recruitment process for a new director of Housing and Social Work is underway. He will take on the new responsibilities in addition to his current role as Director of Education, Learning and Leisure.

He said: "I am very happy to be able to provide leadership to the Housing and Social Work service during this period, as well as continuing in my substantive role as Director of Education, Learning and Leisure.

"Both services have very strong and capable management teams who will continue to deliver high quality services across these extremely important areas."

Colin Mackenzie becomes Chief Executive of Aberdeenshire Council on 18th December. He said: "I'm delighted that Bruce has agreed to oversee the Housing and Social Work service over the next few months. It is an extremely busy time for the service with the results of a housing inspection due out shortly and increasing challenges of delivering services to a growing population of elderly people.

"I know that the team in Housing and Social Work will do everything they can to make this transition as smooth as possible and will benefit greatly from Bruce’s leadership."

The recruitment process for a new Director of Housing and Social Work begins immediately.
