Inverclyde's Provost Michael McCormick has visited Hillend Bowling Club in Greenock to see how a Council cash boost of £5,000 has been put to use.
The Provost met the club's Treasurer Donny Noble and Secretary Pat Woods, who told him how the grant from the Council’s Grants to Voluntary Organisations Fund was vital in allowing the club to build a new roof, which was completed last month.
The club's new roof cost £20,000 and with assistance from CVS Inverclyde, additional funding was obtained through Awards for All and the Scottish Community Foundation.
Donny Noble said: "The old roof was letting in water and there was asbestos in it, which we were keen to get rid of. We're hoping that because the new roof is so well-insulated, it will significantly reduce the club’s heating bills."
Provost McCormick, who approved the club's grant application, said: "It's great to see that the Council’s £5,000 investment has made such a difference to the Bowling Club. The new roof complements the recently-installed double-glazing and should have a big impact on heating costs.
"This is such an important and well-used facility in the East End and I am more than happy to support it in any way I can."
