Faber Maunsell was the big winner at the national Builder and Engineer Awards, walking off with two of the biggest prizes on offer.

They were named Environmental and Sustainable Company of 2008 and also scooped Consulting Engineer of the Year, beating off stiff competition from Atkins, Buro Happold and White Young Green.

Mark Rowlands, Business Development Manager at the company's Liverpool office, said: "Faber Maunsell has been involved in some great building projects over the last year and it is a great honour to be named consultant of the year.

"The award is great recognition of the significant contribution we have made to the industry over the last few years and in particular to the urban regeneration of areas."

Director, Chris Lynn (Cardiff), added: "Over the last few years engineers have played a critical role in the quest to reduce global carbon emissions from buildings and become a major contributor to the broader sustainability agenda.

"Sustainability can play a central role in the process of urban regeneration and these awards are a great acknowledgment of the innovative approach we take to sustainable design."
