AEP have made a statement to clarify a quote from a PA article on the costs of the energy scheme being passed through to consumers.
David Porter, Chief Executive of the Electricity Association, has been quoted by the PA as saying that "the bill to some extent always ends up with the customer". However, in his interview with Radio 4 World at One he also explained that "the energy retailing business and indeed energy wholesaling that I represent is competitive so you can't simply pass through the entire cost". Business Secretary John Hutton agreed with Mr Porter’s analysis on the programme.
In reaction to the PA article using quotes from his World at One interview, David Porter clarified: "The large energy companies have made it clear that they will not want to pass on these costs to customers."
