The opening of Ayr's newest social housing scheme is drawing near, as Ayrshire Housing prepares to add 32 flats to its stock on Green Street in the town centre.
The mix of one- and two-bedroom homes has been designed to be as close to net zero as possible, incorporating solar panels and energy-efficient electric boilers. Parking spaces with EV charging are included; two ground-floor flats are wheelchair accessible and the remaining ground-floor properties are mobility friendly for older tenants.
Spanning Green Street and the corner with North Harbour Street, just north of the River Ayr in the harbour district, the development occupies the former site of a builders' merchant. Around half of the new flats will benefit from riverside views across Ayr Marina.
"These are the first of 91 new planned homes outlined for construction in our 2030 Business Plan to be completed," said Ayrshire Housing Chief Executive, Lesley-Anne Junner during a visit to the site by the association's Board.
Ms Junner said: "I'm very much looking forward to welcoming our new tenants in early 2027, these will be a very welcome addition to our stock in the town."
Established in 2003 through the merger of Carrick Housing Association and South Ayrshire Homes, Ayrshire Housing has expanded to manage 1,700 high-quality, affordable rented homes across urban and rural communities, making it one of the area's leading providers.
"These new homes are being constructed with very latest insulation techniques and state-of-the-art heating technology to ensure that during these times of rising energy costs we are helping to keep more money in tenants' pockets," added Lesley-Anne.
The scheme is being delivered by Ashleigh (Scotland) Ltd, supported by Clancy Consulting and TCS Construction Consultants, to a design by Denham Youd Architects. The project is backed by South Ayrshire Council and benefits from Scottish Government grant funding.
Ayrshire Housing's Board and staff recently toured the Green Street development.
