Construction is gathering pace on the second phase of the Bellsmyre regeneration in West Dunbartonshire, with the first of 33 affordable homes now emerging on site.
Led by Caledonia Housing Association (CHA) alongside West Dunbartonshire Council, the multi-phase, community-led programme aims to deliver up to 138 new homes for local residents over a five-year period.
The first phase at Whiteford Avenue, comprising 27 homes and named a 2026 Scottish Home Awards winner, was completed by construction partner CCG (Scotland) in January. The contractor began work on Phase 2 earlier in the summer.
Building on the approach taken in Phase 1, the latest stage features a mix of flats and houses to reflect a range of tenant needs. The properties are intended for existing Bellsmyre residents relocating from demolished blocks or temporary accommodation. The plans also include new foot and cycle paths to connect the neighbourhood, along with improved public green spaces.
Allan Jones, Chairperson of Caledonia Housing Association, said: "The continued regeneration of Bellsmyre is a longstanding commitment for Caledonia and remains a key project within our development programme. It is fantastic to see this next phase get underway, delivering new affordable homes for the area and supporting the wider sustainable regeneration of the community."
Homes are being delivered using CCG's advanced construction methods, with each property incorporating heat pump technology to provide low-carbon heating and hot water. CCG will also contribute to social value initiatives through site-based employment opportunities and careers engagement with local schools.
David Wylie, CCG (Scotland) Managing Director, said: "It is great to see the first homes take shape at Phase 2, marking another significant milestone in our partnership with Caledonia Housing Association, which began in 2018.
"The association's decision to appoint CCG directly, combined with their commitment to working collaboratively with us and our valued design team, has helped drive efficiencies at every stage, ultimately enabling us to deliver high-quality sustainable homes on budget and at pace.
"This streamlined approach to partnership working is helping to address local housing needs and tackle fuel poverty in the local area, and we look forward to progressing towards completion in 2027."
Phase 2 has received £5.8m in Scottish Government grant funding and supports the Housing Emergency Action Plan, contributing to the supply of safe, warm and affordable homes and helping to tackle the root causes of child poverty.
