Douglas Alexander, the Secretary of State for Scotland, visited Glasgow’s Scottish Event Campus (SEC) on Friday after the UK Government confirmed £6 million of support for the venue’s planned expansion.
He was hosted by SEC Chief Executive Dominic McKay, who led a tour of the campus, including the site of the proposed East Plaza in front of the OVO Hydro.
The SEC is Scotland’s leading destination for conferences, exhibitions, concerts and live events. It comprises three landmark venues — the SEC Centre, the OVO Hydro and the SEC Armadillo — and is known for attracting world-class artists and major international tours and productions.
Since opening in 1985, the campus has staged a wide range of events, from major industrial and political conferences to cultural festivals, sporting fixtures and globally renowned concerts.
The SEC welcomes more than 2.5 million visitors annually and generates over £605 million in economic value for Glasgow and Scotland, supporting 5,300 jobs.
