Deeside Timberframe has begun installing timber-frame systems for 52 new homes at the Vaux Housing Phase II scheme in Sunderland, helping to revitalise one of the North East's most notable brownfield sites.
The firm was appointed by principal contractor Falcon Fox Developments following a competitive tender and is delivering the structural timber package for the latest stage of the programme, which will total 93 homes overall, including two apartment blocks.
Set on the former Vaux brewery land, the project forms part of the wider regeneration of Sunderland city centre. The emerging neighbourhood is planned to benefit from River Wear views, access to Riverside Park and shared outdoor spaces.
The 52 homes are designed to achieve an EPC A rating, underscoring the focus on energy efficiency and long-term environmental performance. Timber-frame construction supports these aims through strong thermal performance, lower embodied energy and the storage of carbon within the building fabric.
For Deeside Timberframe, the contract builds on its ongoing relationship with Falcon Fox Developments and further strengthens its presence across North East England.
Graeme Guy, National Sales Manager England at Deeside Timberframe, said: "The Vaux development is an important part of Sunderland's regeneration, transforming a historic brownfield site into a new residential community. It's rewarding to see the timber frame taking shape and to know that Deeside Timberframe is playing a part in delivering high-quality, energy-efficient homes that will benefit the local area for years to come.
"We're also pleased to be contributing to the growing adoption of timber frame across England. As the industry looks for ways to increase housing delivery, offsite manufacturing has an important role to play in improving construction efficiency, reducing programme times and delivering the quality and consistency that developers need."
