Scottish Borders Council has confirmed the new care development in Tweedbank will be called Three Hills Care Village after an open call for name ideas from residents, families, staff and the wider community.

The village will replace the Garden View and Waverley care homes and is scheduled to open in late 2027, offering modern, high-quality accommodation in a welcoming community setting.

An excellent response to the naming exercise saw 118 submissions, producing 93 distinct suggestions. Many proposals drew on the area’s landscape and local heritage.

A shortlisting panel reviewed every entry against criteria including connection to place, community identity and wellbeing, before selecting options for residents, families and staff at Garden View and Waverley to vote on.

Three Hills Care Village emerged as the preferred overall name. For the three buildings, Willow House, Oak House and Sycamore House received the most votes, reflecting the natural surroundings while giving each part of the village a clear identity.

Councillor David Parker, Executive Member for Health and Wellbeing and Chair of the Integration Joint Board, said: "We would like to thank everyone who took the time to submit their ideas and take part in the voting process.

"We were overwhelmed by the number of submissions received, a clear demonstration of the strong interest residents from across the Borders have in this exciting new development and the important role it will play in the local community.

"Three Hills Care Village is a name that reflects the local landscape and sense of place, while Willow House, Oak House and Sycamore House provide welcoming identities for the buildings within the development.

"Importantly, residents, families and staff had the final say in choosing the winning names, ensuring the result reflects the views of those who will have the closest connection to the care village."

The Tweedbank project forms part of the council's commitment to delivering high-quality, modern care accommodation that promotes dignity, wellbeing and independence.

The chosen names will now be incorporated into future plans, communications and signage as construction progresses towards the planned opening in 2027.
