Schools, leisure venues and community hubs across South Lanarkshire will receive upgrades under a £24 million programme agreed as part of the council's 10-year Estates Strategy.

Community sports facilities, visitor centres, leisure centres, day care centres, primary schools and other properties are slated for works designed to enhance condition, statutory compliance, accessibility and energy efficiency.

Executive Director of Housing and Technical Resources, Stephen Gibson, said: "This significant investment in council infrastructure, right across the whole of South Lanarkshire, will improve the quality, accessibility, utilisation and sustainability of our estate.

"The £24 million investment will be spread over three years, with £7.29 million spent in 2026/27, £11.7 million in 2027/2028 and £5 million in 2028/2029."

A major element of the strategy is council depot rationalisation, with £5 million from the Estates Strategy contributing to the overall project cost, estimated at £18 million.

New community sports hubs will be delivered at Brancumhall Pavilion (costing almost £4 million) and at Lanark Racecourse Pavillion (costing more than £300,000).

A series of condition improvement projects will be undertaken, potentially covering building fabric upgrades, statutory compliance, accessibility enhancements, lifecycle replacements and energy-saving measures. Individual allocations will range from more than £100,000 to £1 million, with Blantyre Leisure Centre set to receive £1 million of works.

Boiler replacements, each costing £75,000, will be carried out to support service continuity, improve reliability and assist energy-efficiency efforts while longer-term decarbonisation is assessed. The primary schools are Blacklaw, Bothwell, Castlefield, Cathkin, Crosshouse, Glenlee, Greenhills, Hareleeshill, High Blantyre, Law, Mount Cameron, Robert Owen Memorial, St Columbkille's, St Elizabeth's, St Hilary's and St Vincent's.

Targeted upgrades will also be made to residential care, with more than £80,000 to be invested across the following Residential Child Care Homes: Bardykes, Hillhouse Road, Hunters Crescent, Langlea Avenue, Rosslyn Avenue and Station Road.

A total of £500,000 will improve the condition of Additional Support Needs establishments at Greenburn ASN, West Mains ASN, and Highmill/Victoria Park Primary Schools.

Office rationalisation will proceed at the council HQ in Hamilton and at South Vennel council offices in Lanark, with £275,000 invested in both buildings.
