The JR Group Backs Govan Pupils With £2,500 For Inspiring Trips

The JR Group has underlined its community commitment by enabling pupils from two Govan schools to access life-changing educational and sporting experiences, providing £2,500 in support.

The funding allowed pupils from Govan High School and Ibrox Primary School to take part in trips aimed at building confidence, teamwork and new skills outside the classroom.

A £1,500 contribution from the national construction firm supported Govan High School's football squad to travel to Valencia, where 26 pupils trained with coaches at Valencia CF's first-team complex and witnessed elite football first-hand at the Mestalla Stadium.

The backing continued to pay dividends on their return, also covering new football tops that were worn in the Crawford Cup Final – a competition the team went on to win.

Gordon Reid, Principal Teacher of Physical Education at Govan High School, said: "The support from The JR Group gave our pupils an opportunity they will remember for years to come. Training with world-class coaches and experiencing football in a different country was hugely inspiring for the team.

"The donation also enabled us to purchase new football tops which the boys proudly wore when they won the Crawford Cup Final. The confidence, skills and experience they gained in Valencia undoubtedly contributed to that success."

The JR Group also donated £1,000 to help Primary 6 and Primary 7 pupils from Ibrox Primary attend an outdoor residential at Lochgoilhead Outdoor Centre.

Across the stay, pupils took on activities such as canoe raft building, shelter construction, nature walks and abseiling, strengthening resilience, confidence and teamwork while making lasting memories with classmates.

After the trip, pupils welcomed representatives from The JR Group to the school to share what they had learned and how the experience had benefited them.

Euan McKendrick, Procurement and Communications Manager at The JR Group, said: "At The JR Group, we believe our responsibility extends beyond delivering high-quality projects. We are equally committed to creating a positive and lasting impact in the communities where we work.

"Supporting opportunities like these allows young people to develop confidence, teamwork and new experiences that can shape their future. Hearing directly from the pupils about what they gained from their trips was incredibly rewarding and reinforces why community investment is such an important part of what we do.

"As we continue delivering key projects across Glasgow and beyond, we're proud to support local schools and organisations that help strengthen communities and create a lasting legacy alongside the places we build."

The JR Group is currently delivering 43 affordable apartments on Nimmo Drive on behalf of Elderpark Housing Association, transforming a previously derelict site into high-quality one-, two-, three- and four-bedroom homes.

The company is also constructing 160 new affordable homes at the former Albion site on Edmiston Drive for Wheatley Group, a flagship regeneration that will turn a prominent brownfield site into a vibrant new neighbourhood featuring one-, two- and three-bedroom homes, including wheelchair-accessible apartments.

These schemes form part of The JR Group's wider commitment to delivering quality housing while creating meaningful social value by supporting local communities throughout the construction process.
