RWE, one of Scotland's leading clean power generators, has confirmed it has completed construction of its latest Scottish onshore wind farm, Enoch Hill, near New Cumnock in East Ayrshire. Farrans acted as the main civil engineering contractor on the scheme.

Turbine commissioning was finalised in May this year, making Enoch Hill the second new onshore wind farm RWE has constructed in Scotland in 2026, following Camster II in Caithness in April, also delivered by Farrans. Together, the two projects add 106 megawatts (MW) of new, clean and secure capacity to RWE's Scottish operational portfolio. The company currently operates nine onshore wind farms with a combined maximum installed capacity of 229MW.

The 70MW Enoch Hill project was consented in September 2019, with construction beginning in June 2023 and first electricity generated in April 2026. It features a mix of Nordex N133/4.8 turbines and N117/3600 Delta4000 turbines, and is capable of supplying enough electricity to power around 68,000 typical UK homes.

RWE, Farrans and Nordex prioritised the local supply chain throughout delivery. Over 38% of Farrans' construction spend went to suppliers within 20 miles of the site, with a further 23% directed to suppliers within 50 miles. In total, 68% of subcontracts were awarded to local firms, and more than 26% of subcontracted spend was retained in the region. Nordex also backed regional investment by appointing local companies in key roles, including MW Hir, Ayrshire; The Bacas, Dalmellington and Maneight Farm, Cumnock.

During its operational life, the project is expected to bring ongoing local benefits through business rates, opportunities for Scottish firms to engage in operations and maintenance, and support for employment and skills development.

The wind farm has also enabled a new £10.5 million community fund focused exclusively on New Cumnock for the first five years. RWE appointed Foundation Scotland to manage the fund during its early stages in direct response to public consultation.
