East Renfrewshire Council has confirmed a £9.1 million investment for 2026/27 to improve nearly 1,500 existing council homes.

The funding sits within the annual Housing Capital Programme, which covers investment in current housing stock as well as new-build projects.

The programme's key aim is to ensure homes are wind and watertight and provide safe, secure living conditions. Works, which are already under way, include extensive roof and render projects, upgrades to communal doors and door entry systems, and a range of estate improvements.

Planned spending includes more than £4 million on roof and render works; £1.1 million for new windows; nearly £500,000 for upgraded central heating systems; £950,000 for new kitchens; £350,000 for smoke detectors and environmental sensors to help keep homes safe and monitor air quality; £454,000 for communal door entry systems (a key element of the Scottish Housing Quality Standard); and almost £500,000 for estate upgrades to improve neighbourhoods and the local environment.

East Renfrewshire Council Environment Convener, Councillor Danny Devlin, said: "This is a significant investment in our council homes, and I'm delighted that works are already underway.
