Play areas in and around Dunoon are set for improvements after Argyll and Bute received a £100,000 share of £938,000 in Scottish Government funding.

The allocations are £35,000 for Sandbank, £40,000 for Glen Morag and £25,000 for Dunoon Skatepark. Sandbank Community Trust has contributed a further £10,000, with an additional £5,000 expected from another source, while Dunoon Community Council has raised £1,000 towards a picnic bench for Glen Morag.

With this extra money secured, the council will now go out to tender for a contractor to supply and install equipment at the two play parks. Detailed plans for refurbishing the skatepark will be drawn up later.

The council has worked closely with the community to ensure the chosen equipment meets the needs of children and young people, promoting health and wellbeing as well as simple fun.

The Scottish Government funding will allow for the removal of outdated equipment, with some items refurbished and others replaced. The additional funds for Sandbank could deliver a signature feature to act as the park's centrepiece.

Both parks will benefit from renewed groundworks, and Glen Morag will gain a wheelchair accessible roundabout.

"The input from the community throughout the consultation and commissioning processes shows just how important the wellbeing of the younger members of town is. What we will have, very soon, are places where they can meet up with their friends, have fun on new equipment and enjoy Dunoon's good, fresh air."
