Lanark Hyndford Road Resurfacing To Bring Phased Closures In August

Construction News Image

To minimise disruption, South Lanarkshire Council will carry out the works in two phases. Section 1, between St Kentigerns Roundabout and Braxfield Road, will shut from 8am on Tuesday 4 August for up to four days. A signed diversion will direct traffic via the A73 Hyndford Road, A743 and A70 Ayr Road.

A special diversion for traffic heading to New Lanark will operate via Hope Street, Gallowhill Road, Kildare Road, St Leonard Street and South Vennel.

Given the number of properties affected, access will be provided where possible but significant delays are expected until the works allow for controlled access. At certain times, the depth of excavation will make access impossible. Where feasible, residents and businesses may need to enter or exit via alternative directions and locations.

Section 2, from Hyndford Bridge to the A70, will close on Sunday 9 August for up to four days. The signed diversion for this phase will use the A70, B7078, A71, A72 and A73.

During these closures, no motor vehicles will be permitted to park or drive on the affected sections, except vehicles involved in the works and emergency service vehicles.

Colin Park, the council's Head of Roads, Transportation and Fleet Services, said: "This resurfacing work will cost around £200,000 and it represents a significant investment in the road network within Lanark.

"However, the unfortunate side of such extensive work is that it will inevitably cause disruption for drivers and people in the adjacent properties, and we therefore urge everyone to take notice of these closures and think how it might affect them, including planning ahead and allowing extra time for travelling if necessary.

"We apologise for the inconvenience this will cause to people in the area, but their patience and understanding during the course of this work would be much appreciated. I know everyone who uses Hyndford Road will see a benefit in the improved condition of the surface as a result of the works."
