A section of the Duddingston Low Road footpath in Holyrood Park has been temporarily closed as SP Energy Networks undertakes urgent repairs to an underground electricity cable.

The closure took effect on Friday 24 July and will remain in place until Friday 7 August, allowing specialist teams to safely fix a fault on the local electricity network.

The work is required to maintain a safe and reliable power supply for thousands of homes and businesses in the surrounding area.

Due to the technical complexity of the operation, the affected stretch will be fully closed to both pedestrians and cyclists for the duration of the works.

A signed diversion has been introduced via the Innocent Railway Path, with advisory warning signs installed across the park to inform visitors of the closure and alternative access. Park users are encouraged to follow the diversion and allow additional time for their journeys while repairs are completed.

David Climie, District General Manager for Edinburgh and the Borders, said:"We know Duddingston Low Road is a popular walking and cycling route, especially at this time of the year, but it's vital we get in and complete the necessary repairs to ensure there is no impact on local power supplies.

"Our thanks in advance to all those using the route for their patience and understanding – we will complete the works and reopen the footpath as soon as it is safe to do so."

Duddingston Low Road is already closed to vehicle traffic because of a risk of rock fall, so motorists are not affected by these emergency works. Visitors planning to walk or cycle through Holyrood Park are advised to follow all signage and use the designated diversion during the closure period.
