Twenty grants have supported community projects near Inch Cape's onshore works in East Lothian this year, with around £15,000 still available in 2026.

In 2026 to date, the Inch Cape Construction Fund has backed a wide range of local initiatives serving communities closest to the project's onshore infrastructure, awarding 20 grants to groups and organisations.

Beyond Boundaries East Lothian used support from the Fund to buy water safety equipment — including helmets, buoyancy aids and wetsuits — to make weekly sessions at Prestonpans Beach accessible to all. Dryrobes were also purchased for volunteers who assist young participants during the activities.

Funding enabled the Preston Lodge Learning Foundation to stage a day-long book festival at Preston Lodge High School, the secondary nearest the onshore substation. The programme featured interactive activities for pupils and families, author events, a creative writing workshop and a pop-up bookshop, all aimed at celebrating reading and storytelling.

A grant helped Cockenzie & Port Seton in Bloom acquire tools and materials to refresh a coastal public green space beside the onshore substation. Volunteers restored the weathered wooden wave features with extensive filling and multiple coats of paint, with further work planned to plant coastal-friendly grasses and other species. New volunteers are encouraged to join.

Support from the Fund also brought African women from across the capital and beyond to East Lothian for a summer skills workshop focused on careers, business and productivity. Attendees gained practical AI skills and benefited from networking that fostered collaboration, friendship and community support.

The Construction Fund serves communities in Cockenzie, Port Seton and Prestonpans, and approximately £15,000 remains to be awarded in 2026. Applications can be made via the Inch Cape Construction Fund page on the Foundation Scotland website.

The two most recent awards, made in July, were £2,000 to Euan's Guide to fund accessibility reviews of venues in the fund area and contribute to its online resource for disabled people, and £1,350 to Pennypit Community Development Trust to provide free meals and activities for a children's holiday lunch club during school holidays.
