Children and families gathered to mark the opening of a new community play area on Fife Drive in Forgewood.
Developed by North Lanarkshire Council in partnership with Forgewood Housing Co-operative, Forgewood Family Learning Centre and local residents, the facility was officially opened by Councillor Geraldine Woods, Convener of the Communities Committee.
Residents were invited to choose a name for the site and overwhelmingly backed 'Maggie's Park' in memory of Margaret Halloran.
A lifelong Forgewood resident, Margaret was well known as a swing park attendant and devoted countless hours to supporting local children, working with organisations to provide activities and opportunities in the park and the wider community.
Margaret passed away in 2021, and naming the play area recognises her exceptional contribution and enduring influence on generations of children and residents. Her family said they were delighted by the community's decision and deeply touched that her commitment, kindness and community spirit will be remembered in a space that brings children, families and neighbours together.
The new play space includes equipment for all ages, such as a multi-play unit, an accessible roundabout and trampoline, a toddlers' multi-play unit, springers and a variety of swings, including a basket swing and a hammock. Picnic benches have also been installed to provide comfortable seating for adults and families.
