Fife Council is progressing plans to expand its social housing stock in Coaltown of Wemyss following committee approval to acquire 14 new build properties at the Castle Park development.
Members of Fife Council's Cabinet Committee agreed to advance the transaction with developer Persimmon Homes during their meeting on Thursday. The acquisition comprises a mix of two and three-bedroom houses designed to address acute housing pressures and deliver high-quality accommodation for families in the Levenmouth area.
The purchase is being supported by Scottish Government funding, ensuring the acquisition delivers optimum value for money for the local authority. The initiative forms a key part of the Council's broader strategic response to the declared housing emergency and aligns with its ongoing Affordable Housing Programme to boost housing supply across the region.
Once the handovers are complete, the new properties are projected to benefit up to 30 households. This will be achieved through the Council's transfer-led allocations approach, which enables tenants to transition into more suitable housing, thereby releasing existing council properties back into the system for other applicants in need.
Councillor Judy Hamilton, Fife Council's Housing Spokesperson, said: "This is a positive step in increasing the supply of good-quality homes in communities where they are needed most.
"By working proactively to bring new properties into our housing stock, we can support families, reduce pressure on temporary accommodation, and help more people find a home that meets their needs."
