Gensource Targets Awards Hat-Trick After SME of the Year Nomination

Gensource's growing influence in the sustainable energy sector has seen the Musselburgh firm shortlisted for SME of the Year at the Midlothian & East Lothian Chamber Business Awards (MELCC).

The company is going for a notable hat-trick of successes at the awards having picked up High Growth Business of the Year in 2025 and New Business of the Year 12 months prior to that.

Applicants had to meet certain core criteria, including: what differentiates the company's products or services from competitors; strong managerial and financial performance; innovation; potential for future growth and evidence of a commitment to staff and people development.

"Obviously we are delighted to receive this further nomination after our success in the last couple of years," said co-founder and Commercial Director Robert Wilson.

"Winning High Growth Business of the Year was a genuine milestone for us and a real validation of the direction we have taken since launching Gensource just over three years ago.

"To be recognised three years in a row by MELCC, in different categories, is incredibly rewarding.

"It gives us confidence that the work we're doing, the culture we're building and the solutions we are delivering are having a real impact."

On top of its core services of solar, storage and heating for homes and business, one of Gensource's big success stories of the past 12 months came earlier this year with its expansion as a charge point operator.

The sustainable energy specialist completed its first fully managed commercial EV project at Archerfield Walled Garden in East Lothian, delivering the infrastructure and now operating the charging network on an ongoing basis.

Welcoming the latest recognition, Gensource Managing Director Josh King said: "Being shortlisted reflects the next stage of our journey.

"While growth remains important, this nomination is really about consistency, maturity and sustainability as a business. It recognises not just how fast we've grown, but how well we're building the business for the long term.

"For a business that was established in December 2022, this kind of recognition reinforces that we're on the right path and motivates us to keep raising the bar."

There are 10 categories in total and the winners will be announced at a dinner in Musselburgh in September which is expected to attract over 200 guests.
