A new, no-cost webinar series has been unveiled to upskill professionals using wood in the built environment, launched alongside the Timber in Construction Skills Programme.
Branded Timber in Construction 101, the initiative is open to anyone interested in timber and aims to provide practical, ready-to-use knowledge across the full value chain.
Skills development sits at the heart of the Timber in Construction Roadmap. The two-year Timber in Construction Skills Programme, backed by the CITB, is being delivered by a consortium including Timber Development UK (TDUK), Built Environment – Smarter Transformation (BE-ST), Edinburgh Napier University, NMITE, the Structural Timber Association (STA), and Donaldson Timber Systems.
Alex Goodfellow, CEO for Donaldson Timber Systems, said: "The Timber in Construction Roadmap highlighted the importance of developing the workforce alongside the growth of timber construction, and this CITB-funded initiative is an important step in helping address that challenge.
"By bringing together industry, education and innovation partners, we have an opportunity to create a long-term skills framework that supports better project outcomes, attracts more people into construction and helps the sector deliver the high-quality, low-carbon homes the UK needs in the years ahead."
The six intervention-led sessions in Timber in Construction 101 align with course content in development and cover: Material Intelligence; Design and Specification; Offsite Manufacturing; Onsite Excellence; Navigating Compliance; and Constructing Carbon. The focus is on actionable insights that can be applied immediately on site or in factory settings.
Enrolment opened on 15 May 2026, with the first webinar, Material Intelligence, scheduled for 3 June 2026. All sessions will be available on demand to support a growing community of learners and educators engaging with timber.
David Hopkins, chief executive for Timber Development UK, echoed this message: "As offsite approaches and low-carbon materials like timber gain significant market share, the professionals who understand wood - and can work with it confidently - will be the ones who lead the industry into the next decade. We are proud to work with our network of partners, members and industry experts to launch this webinar series – made free to all – in support of the wider programme, and bring the industry knowledge to support this skills evolution."
Organisations and individuals are invited to help shape the programme by reviewing and strengthening content, contributing new knowledge, case studies or teaching materials, championing the initiative within their organisation, supporting educators to embed timber into curricula, and taking part in events or podcasts. Expressions of interest can be submitted via the programme's online form.
Participation in the webinar series requires only a free Timber Development UK account. Further details and sign-up are available at timberdevelopment.uk.
