The Citadel Leisure Centre has entered the next phase of its significant internal refurbishment programme. To facilitate these improvements, South Ayrshire Council has announced temporary changes to gym access, effective from Monday, 20 April, for a duration of approximately four weeks.
During this period, gym members are required to access the facility via the rear of the building. Non-members should continue to visit the main reception as usual to process their payment; staff will then provide direction to the temporary gym entrance. Signage will be in place throughout the site to assist customers with the new access route.
As part of the internal construction, the weights room will be closed to accommodate a temporary reception point. Key equipment is being relocated to the main gym to ensure continued availability for users. The council has advised that this relocation will take place between Saturday, 18 April, and Sunday, 19 April, during which time some equipment may be unavailable.
The works will not impact other areas of the centre. Fitness classes, swimming sessions—including the Learn 2 programme—and all other activities, such as squash bookings, remain unaffected and will be accessed via the main entrance as normal.
This project is part of a broader commitment to upgrading sport and leisure facilities across the region, following the successful reopening of the Prestwick Leisure Club last year and ongoing works to upgrade and extend the Troon Leisure Club.
Jane Bradley, South Ayrshire Council's Director of Communities and Transformation, said: "I am pleased that works to upgrade and refurbish the Citadel Leisure Centre have progressed, and we've been able to make headway on the internal construction of the facility. Improving the amenities available at our Leisure centres reflects our dedication to supporting the health and wellbeing of our communities by providing high-quality, modern spaces."
