Glasgow's Landmark Student Hub Reaches Topping Out Milestone

Developer MRP, contractor McAleer & Rushe, and funding partner Puma Property Finance have celebrated a significant construction milestone with the official topping out of Broadway Studios.

The 16-storey, 432-bed purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA) scheme in Glasgow city centre reached its full structural height in late 2025, with a ceremony held on Thursday, 5 February, to mark the progress.

The £58 million development is situated in a prime central location, providing easy access to major institutions including the University of Glasgow, University of Strathclyde, Glasgow Caledonian University, The Glasgow School of Art, and The Royal Conservatoire of Scotland.

Broadway Studios holds the distinction of being the first student development in Glasgow to fully align with the city's updated PBSA spatial standards. Beyond compliance, the project is designed with a heavy focus on sustainability and resident experience, targeting:

• BREEAM 'Excellent' and an EPC A rating.

• WiredScore 'Platinum' for best-in-class digital connectivity.

• 20% improvement (Gold Level) over Glasgow City Council's energy efficiency requirements.

To achieve these benchmarks, the building incorporates air-source heat pumps and high-performance materials to ensure long-term operational efficiency and a reduced carbon footprint.

Once the doors open, residents will have access to a suite of high-end shared amenities designed to foster a vibrant community:

• A rooftop Sky Lounge with panoramic city views.

• A modern fitness suite, yoga/Pilates studio, and gym.

• An on-site cinema and games hub (including a Mahjong table and podcasting room).

• Private dining rooms and dedicated quiet study areas.

The project remains on schedule for completion in Summer 2026, ahead of the 2026/2027 academic year. The building will be operated by Prestige Student Living, and room bookings are already being accepted.

Shane McBride, Development Director at MRP, commented: "Broadway Studios exemplifies MRP's strategy of delivering high-quality, operationally resilient PBSA in undersupplied university cities. We are delighted to reach this significant milestone and thank our exceptional partners and the local community for their continued support."

Shane McCullagh, Director at McAleer & Rushe, added: "Reaching the topping out milestone is a testament to the expertise and collaboration shown by everyone involved. We are proud to be playing our part in delivering high-quality, sustainable student accommodation in the heart of Glasgow."

Kevin Davidson, Managing Director at Puma Property Finance, concluded: "It was a pleasure to see first-hand the great progress being made. We look forward to seeing students take up occupation for the 2026/27 academic year."
