Midlothian Council has announced a public drop-in event to showcase the proposed designs for 23 new council homes in the heart of Newtongrange.
The development, planned for the sites of the former Newtongrange swimming pool and the adjacent Church Hall, represents a key phase of the town centre's ongoing regeneration.
The current designs have been refined following extensive pre-application discussions with the Planning Authority and feedback gathered from local residents during community engagement events held throughout 2023 and 2024. The project aims to deliver high-quality, affordable housing while revitalising derelict land in a central, accessible location.
The proposed development is expected to feature a mix of modern housing units designed to integrate with the village’s existing architecture. Previous council reports have also highlighted these sites as potential locations for trial "modular" or "kit-style" housing—Modern Methods of Construction (MMC) that can offer improved energy efficiency and faster delivery times.
