The East Lothian Planning Committee has granted unanimous approval for a new phase of residential development at Windygoul South, Tranent. The decision, reached during a meeting on Tuesday, 3 February, clears the way for BDW Trading Ltd to construct 76 houses on land situated at the western boundary of the site.

This latest approval forms part of a wider masterplan for Windygoul South, which originally received planning permission in principle for 561 homes in December 2019. The scope of the project was expanded last August to a total of 577 units, a figure that includes 144 affordable homes integrated across the entire development.

The newly approved 76 dwellings are designated for private sale and will feature a diverse range of 12 different house types. The mix includes detached, semi-detached, and terraced properties, all designed as two-storey buildings with a "relatively traditional pitched roof form." Prospective residents will have a choice of three, four, and five-bedroom configurations.

Significant progress has already been made across the broader Windygoul South site, with detailed planning permissions previously secured for most areas. Consequently, a substantial number of the residential units are currently under construction or have reached completion.

The application proceeded smoothly through the planning process, with the committee noting that no objections to the proposal had been submitted.
