Construction has officially commenced on a 26-home affordable development in Viewpark following a sod-cutting ceremony at Laburnum Road in late January 2026.
CCG (Scotland) is delivering the project on behalf of North Lanarkshire Council, with designs by Coltart Earley Architecture. The housing mix comprises four three-bedroom houses; one four-bedroom wheelchair-accessible bungalow; one two-bedroom wheelchair-accessible bungalow; one one-bedroom wheelchair-accessible cottage flat; eight two-bedroom amenity bungalows; nine two-bedroom amenity cottage flats; and two one-bedroom amenity cottage flats.
All amenity plots are designed with features and access measures to help residents live independently for longer.
Housing Convener, Councillor Michael McPake, broke ground alongside Councillor Margaret Boyd. Representatives from CCG (Scotland), North Lanarkshire Council and St John Paul II Primary School also attended.
Councillor McPake said: "We continue to make significant progress delivering our new supply programme. We've completed 1,629 homes and have a further eight projects on site which will deliver over 300 new homes. This site at Laburnum Road is situated in the heart of the local community with excellent transport links and amenities and will deliver modern homes for our tenants.
"Our new homes change the face of our local communities, provide jobs and training opportunities and boost the local economy. Providing sustainable housing for our tenants now and for generations to come is all part of our ambition to make North Lanarkshire the place to live."
The development is expected to complete by spring next year. The £6.3m scheme includes £2.7m in grant funding from the Scottish Government.
CCG (Scotland) Managing Director, David Wylie, added: "We are delighted to be supporting North Lanarkshire Council by bringing much-needed affordable homes to Viewpark. The project is one of three currently on site with the council across the region (totalling over 250 homes) and continues a successful partnership that will deliver long-term benefits for future tenants, with a mix of homes addressing a variety of needs, as well as for the wider community through job and apprenticeship opportunities.
"I thank the council for their continued support and look forward to seeing how the works progress in the months ahead."
CCG is also advancing two further schemes in Coatbridge: the regeneration of the former Columba High School site in Whifflet (127 homes) and a 100-home development at Dunotter Avenue in Shawhead.
The Laburnum Road project was procured through the Scottish Procurement Alliance.
