SP Energy Networks is inviting local residents to share their views on proposed upgrades to the electricity transmission network in the Cambuslang area.

The project is designed to enhance network capacity, facilitating the transport of renewable energy across the country and supporting national energy security and clean energy goals.

The proposed works involve a physical extension to the existing Clydesmill substation. Additionally, the project includes an upgrade to the 24.6km overhead line route connecting Clydesmill to the Denny North substation, increasing its operating voltage from 275kV to 400kV.

This upcoming round of engagement follows an initial public consultation held in February last year. SP Energy Networks is now seeking feedback on its updated proposals during a consultation period running from Monday 9 February to Friday 27 February.

Two public exhibitions will be held during this window, providing an opportunity for the community to discuss the plans with the project team. Residents can also submit their feedback online, via telephone, or through a Freepost service.

The scheduled exhibitions are as follows:

• Wednesday 11 February (10am – 2pm): Halfway Hall, 26 Graham Avenue, Cambuslang, Glasgow G72 7RB.

• Friday 13 February (2pm – 7pm): Cambuslang Institute, 37 Greenlees Road, Cambuslang, Glasgow G72 8JE.

Once this consultation phase is complete, the company will finalise the design for the substation layout, covering building locations, equipment, landscaping, drainage, and internal access. Detailed plans are expected to be presented at further events in mid-March before a formal planning application is submitted to South Lanarkshire Council.
