East Dunbartonshire Council has unveiled a range of design options for a new outdoor community pump track in Twechar, following a highly successful initial consultation.

Residents of all ages are now being invited to cast their votes to determine which design will be constructed near the Twechar Healthy Living & Enterprise Centre.

The project, delivered in partnership with the Green Action Trust (GAT), stems from a consultation held last year that showed overwhelming local support for a dedicated cycling facility. A pump track is a purpose-built circuit of ramps and turns where riders generate momentum through body movements—known as "pumping"—rather than pedalling.

To ensure the final facility meets the needs of the village, the Council is presenting several distinct design choices, each tailored to accommodate a variety of skill levels and equipment, including BMX bikes, mountain bikes, and scooters.

Councillor Paul Ferretti, Convener of the Council's Place, Neighbourhood & Corporate Assets Committee, said: "We took on-board the feedback we got in the consultation and we're now looking for the people of Twechar's help to decide on the winning design. To ensure we are offering the highest standard of quality and choice to the community, we are presenting a variety of design options to residents. Each of the choices are designed to be challenging and exciting and will cater to all skill levels."

How to Cast Your Vote

The final decision rests with the community, and a dedicated drop-in event has been organised for residents to view the proposals and select their favourite.

Younger residents will also have a voice in the process, with a special voting event scheduled for pupils at Twechar Primary School on Tuesday 20 January.

Encouraging a high turnout, Councillor Ferretti added: "This is a fantastic opportunity to help shape a vibrant new space for riders in Twechar. Whether you're a keen rider, a parent, or simply interested in what's planned for the area, we'd love to hear your thoughts as we want as many people as possible to take part and have their say on what's eventually constructed."

The design receiving the highest number of votes by the end of the consultation period will be the one officially selected for installation.
