Moray Council has lodged a planning application to regenerate Grant Lodge in Elgin, a key milestone in delivering the town's Cultural Quarter through the Moray Growth Deal.
Proposals by a design team led by Page/Park Architects would revitalise the historic building as a hub for heritage, tourism and events. Since 2023, more than 600 people have been consulted to shape the plans, which sit alongside wider Cultural Quarter projects celebrating Moray's heritage, arts and community life.
Leader of Moray Council, Cllr Kathleen Robertson, said: "The submission of this planning application is a major step forward in our commitment to revitalising Elgin's town centre. Grant Lodge has long been a cherished landmark, and its regeneration will provide a focal point for culture and creativity, benefiting residents and visitors alike."
The Cultural Quarter forms part of coordinated investment across key Elgin sites to enhance cultural infrastructure and support economic growth. The Moray Growth Deal totals £100 million from the UK and Scottish Governments, Moray Council and regional partners, with £21 million allocated to Cultural Quarter initiatives.
Page\Park Architects said: "We're thrilled to be leading the delivery of this transformative project at Grant Lodge."
"We believe deeply in celebrating the exemplar heritage in our unique towns and cities and using heritage as an agent for local change and regeneration. The project ambition is to blend carefully restored heritage spaces with sensitive contemporary extensions to provide a range of flexible, high-quality spaces for local, regional and national visitors. Grant Lodge will become a gateway to the region and a place to gather for occasions of all kinds."
"We're excited for the doors of Grant Lodge to open once again and allow the community to feel ownership of a building that is much loved and holds fond memories to so many."
Subject to planning permission and sufficient additional funding, construction is expected between 2027 and 2029. The renewed venue would provide flexible spaces for exhibitions, events, and social and recreational activities, reinstating Grant Lodge at the heart of the community for generations to come.
