Investment in Renfrewshire's public play spaces is continuing, with work set to begin on upgrading a further six play parks as part of a strategic council programme to provide modern and welcoming outdoor facilities for families and young people.

A total investment of £480,000 has been allocated for the refurbishment and installation of new play areas, funded primarily through the Scottish Government's Play Area Renewal Fund, supplemented by Renfrewshire Council capital funding.

The new designs, which factored in detailed feedback from local communities, will see renewal works carried out at the following locations:

• Robertson Park, Renfrew (Renewal)

• Stuart Road, Bishopton (Renewal)

• Campbell Street, Johnstone (Renewal)

• Poplar Avenue, Johnstone (Renewal)

• East Fulton, Linwood (Brand-new play area installation)

• Ferguslie Gardens, Paisley (Partial refurbishment)

New equipment specified for the sites includes inclusive roundabouts, somersault bars, climbing nets, rope end swings, spinner bowls, and multi-play tower units.

Contractors Sutcliffe Play Ltd, Kompan Scotland Ltd, and Scotplay & Sports Ltd have been appointed to deliver the upgrades. Construction work is anticipated to begin in the early new year and is scheduled for completion by late spring 2026.

In addition to the six immediate projects, planning is advancing for further enhancements at: KGV Playing Fields, Renfrew; Robertson Park (Craigielea Road End), Renfrew; and a brand new play park at Braehead Road, Paisley.

Separately, two new outdoor gyms, funded in collaboration with the #YouDecide initiative, are planned for installation in Spring 2026 at Poplar Avenue, Johnstone, and Lochwinnoch Public Park, Lochwinnoch.

A significant £175,000 investment, fully funded by the Scottish Government's Play Area Renewal Fund, will also see the existing red blaes BMX track at Barshaw Park, Paisley, transformed into a modern, all-concrete pump track. Completion of this new facility is also expected in late Spring 2026.

Since 2021, the Council, Scottish Government, and community fundraising efforts have collectively invested more than £5 million in local play parks. The completion of these latest projects will bring the total number of upgraded and renewed parks to 55 by late Spring 2026.
