A civic plaza with gardens and an events area is to be developed in Erskine, creating a new focal point for the community.
The scheme marks the first phase of a broader programme of town centre improvements shaped by Renfrewshire Council alongside local residents and community groups.
Vacant land at Erskine Sports Centre will be brought into use as a meeting place that can also host community events and market stalls.
Plans include a recreational greenspace and garden with seating and natural play features, plus more attractive walking routes linking town centre shops with the sports and medical centres and the nearby waterfront.
Feedback from local people informed the final design, leading to the addition of natural play equipment, better path lighting, infrastructure to support a Christmas tree, and fencing and hedging around the site.
Councillor Andy Steel, Convener of Renfrewshire Council’s Economy and Regeneration Policy Board, said: "It’s great to see these proposals coming to fruition following close engagement with the local community in Erskine who told us that they felt the area was lacking a civic space for events to be held."
"The new plaza and greenspace will make this area more attractive and encourage local people to visit, with the opportunity for markets or community events to be held here."
"We’re continuing to work hard to develop all of our town and villages and this significant investment will make a positive difference to Erskine and everyone who lives there or visits."
The project represents an investment of more than £500,000 and is being funded by Renfrewshire Council, the UK Government’s Shared Prosperity Fund and the Scottish Government’s Place Based Investment Programme.
Covanburn Contracts Limited has been awarded the contract, with work due to begin in early January 2026 and complete over the summer.
