Southside Housing Association has announced a new conversion project that will repurpose a former police station into social housing, having secured all necessary statutory consents for the development.
The building, located at 86 Craigie Street, Strathbungo, was acquired from Police Scotland two years ago. The conversion will now proceed, delivering three high-quality homes for social rent, helping to meet the growing demand for affordable housing in the area.
The project is being funded through grant support from Glasgow City Council, the Association's principal funding partner. The construction contract has been awarded to CCG (Scotland) Ltd, a Glasgow-based company with a strong track record in delivering affordable housing.
Paul McVey, Chief Executive of Southside Housing Association, highlighted the creative approach to development: "We're thrilled to be repurposing this historic building to provide new homes for people who need them most. This project is a great example of how we can creatively use existing spaces to meet housing needs and strengthen our communities."
Councillor Ruairi Kelly, City Convener for Housing, Development and Built Heritage at Glasgow City Council, echoed the sentiment: "The conversion of this former police station not only creates three much-needed homes for social rent but brings a historic building in Strathbungo back to life."
