A popular tourist spot in Renfrewshire, Castle Semple in Lochwinnoch, is undergoing a major infrastructure upgrade backed by over £700,000 in investment. Paisley-based main contractor Clark Contracts has been appointed to complete the works, which are now underway.

The project involves the demolition of the previous building and the construction of a new facility comprising three key elements:

• A new cycle hub for bike storage and hire, linking to National Cycle Route 7.

• A new seasonal information kiosk.

• Brand-new accessible public toilets for visitors and local residents.

In line with sustainable construction practices, the project prioritises waste reduction, with salvaged wood and slate from the demolition being recycled and reused in the new building's construction.

Councillor Andy Steel, Convener of Renfrewshire Council's Economy and Regeneration Policy Board, welcomed the significant investment: "I'm especially pleased to see a sustainable building ethos at the heart of the work... The new cycle hub will be a great addition, as will the seasonal information kiosk, as we aim to attract more people to not only Castle Semple, but the wider Clyde Muirshiel Regional Park too."

The funding is provided through a combination of the Scottish Government's Place Based Investment Programme, the UK Government's Shared Prosperity Fund, and the Rural Tourism Infrastructure Fund.

The project is expected to be completed in spring 2026, enhancing the site for water sports enthusiasts, walkers, and cyclists.
