Tilbury Douglas has officially commenced work on the significant refurbishment and extension project at Mearns Castle High School in Newton Mearns, delivered on behalf of East Renfrewshire Council.

The project will involve the demolition of a 280sqm section of the original building to the north, making way for the design and construction of a new 580sqm two-storey extension.

The new extension, designed in collaboration with ECDA, Rybka, and Narro, will house six new classrooms, administrative offices, toilet facilities, and new lift and stair cores. Crucially, all works will be carried out within a live school environment.

Barry O'Hagan, Regional Director – Scotland at Tilbury Douglas, highlighted the importance of communication and community benefit, given the live school setting. He stated that the team is collaborating closely with East Renfrewshire Council and the school's DYW (Developing the Young Workforce) team to create "real opportunities for pupils" through apprenticeships, work experience, and employability support.

The project marks a significant new client relationship for Tilbury Douglas with East Renfrewshire Council, further expanding the firm's experience in delivering school projects in Scotland.
