Lennoxtown Main Street Upgrade Begins After Securing £1.02m Award

Transformative improvement works are now beginning on Lennoxtown Main Street in East Dunbartonshire, following a successful application by Council Officers that secured a £1.02 million award from Transport Scotland's Active Travel Infrastructure Fund.

The project, which is being delivered by main contractor Luddon Construction and is expected to conclude by Summer 2026, focuses on the area between Crosshill Street and School Lane.

The comprehensive upgrade aims to improve both safety and the street's visual appeal by delivering:

• Traffic Calming: Implementation of measures to improve pedestrian safety.

• Active Travel Infrastructure: Installation of a new controlled crossing and improvements aligned with 'Cycling by Design' and 'Designing Streets' guidance.

• Aesthetic Enhancements: Material upgrades and extensive landscaping, including improvements to the gardens of the adjacent Campsie Memorial Hall.

• Car Park: Resurfacing of the Lennox Square car park.

Councillor Paul Ferretti, convener of the Place, Neighbourhood and Corporate Assets committee, welcomed the start of the "much-anticipated project," stating that the improvements will "breathe new life into the village's main thoroughfare" and are informed by community consultation.

Transport Secretary Fiona Hyslop noted that the investment reflects the Scottish Government's commitment to building healthier, more inclusive communities. This project sits alongside two other major capital regeneration projects currently being progressed in Lennoxtown: the refurbishment of the Campsie Memorial Hall and the Lennoxtown Greenspace project.
